What Ayurveda says about Guduchi

Ayurveda classes Guduchi as a rasayana. It is bitter, astringent, heavy and unctuous, and is traditionally used to balance Pitta and support digestion.

Guduchi and your period

Traditionally used where Pitta heat, sluggish digestion and general depletion sit behind cycle changes. In AAVIE it is selected carefully, and replaced with another herb for some profiles as a precaution.

Who it tends to suit

Selected only when your assessment suggests it fits.

Why the right dose matters

Why not less

Too little is unlikely to give the effect described traditionally.

Why not more

Too much can upset digestion and, in rare reported cases, has been linked with liver injury. This is why the dose and the choice of herb are reviewed.

The right amount is not the same for everyone. It depends on your Prakriti and your current imbalance (Vikriti), which is why AAVIE sets it for you and a Vaidya reviews it. Read why the right dose matters.

Check with your doctor first if

  • You have an autoimmune condition
  • You take diabetes medicines
  • You have a liver condition
  • You are pregnant
Safety note: Published case reports have linked Tinospora cordifolia with liver injury in rare cases. AAVIE screens for this and may replace Guduchi with another herb.
Good to know: AAVIE is a herbal supplement. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and it does not replace medical care. Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition or take medicines.

Common questions

Is Guduchi safe for everyone?

No herb is right for everyone. Check with your doctor first if any of the cautions on this page apply to you. AAVIE asks about your medicines and conditions before selecting herbs.

Will Guduchi be in my AAVIE supplement?

Only if your assessment suggests it fits. AAVIE selects herbs for each person and each cycle, and a Vaidya reviews the selection.

Does the dose of Guduchi matter?

Yes. Too little is unlikely to give the traditional effect and too much can cause side effects. The right amount depends on your Prakriti and current Vikriti.
