Hair fall and your cycle: what Ayurveda says

More shedding can be linked with stress, nutrition and hormones. Here is what to know and what to ask your doctor.

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. Shedding beyond that often follows a trigger such as stress, crash dieting, low iron, thyroid changes or hormonal imbalance, and it can show up two to three months later. Ayurveda links hair with Asthi dhatu and with Pitta and Vata balance. AAVIE does not treat hair loss. It supports your cycle and hormonal balance with a personalised herbal supplement.

What it can look like

  • More hair on your pillow, brush or drain
  • A thinner ponytail or a widening parting
  • Shedding a couple of months after stress or illness
  • Hair fall along with heavy or irregular periods

The Ayurvedic view

Ayurveda calls hair loss khalitya. It describes hair as a by-product of Asthi dhatu (bone tissue), nourished through digestion and the dhatus in sequence. Excess Pitta (heat) is said to damage the roots, and Vata (dryness) to make hair dry and brittle. Poor digestion (Agni) and Ama are seen as reducing nourishment. This is a traditional framework, not a diagnosis. See dhatu.

Ask your doctor about

  • Iron and ferritin
  • Thyroid (TSH)
  • Vitamin D and B12
  • Hormone tests, if you also have irregular periods, acne or excess hair

What the AAVIE assessment looks at

Things that may help

  • Eat enough protein and iron-rich food, regularly

How AAVIE supports you

AAVIE builds a personalised herbal supplement from your answers to support your cycle and hormonal balance. A Vaidya reviews it before it ships. It works best alongside regular sleep, meals and stress care. It does not treat any condition, and results vary.

See a doctor if:
  • Sudden or patchy hair loss
  • Scalp redness, pain, itching or scaling
  • Rapid thinning over a few weeks
  • Hair fall with irregular periods, acne or excess facial hair
  • Hair loss with tiredness, feeling cold or weight changes
Good to know: AAVIE is a herbal supplement. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and it does not replace medical care. Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition or take medicines.
