Weight changes and your cycle: what Ayurveda says

Weight and your cycle affect each other. This page explains how, without any diet advice.

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Weight and the menstrual cycle affect each other. Weight gain can go along with PCOS, thyroid changes, stress and poor sleep, while large weight loss or eating too little can make periods late, light or stop. Ayurveda links weight gain with Kapha and Meda dhatu (fat tissue), and weight loss with Vata. AAVIE is not a weight-loss product and does not treat any condition. It supports your cycle and hormonal balance with a personalised herbal supplement.

AAVIE does not set weight goals. If you skip meals, restrict food, binge, or feel distressed about your body or weight, please speak to a doctor or a counsellor you trust. Periods that stop can be a sign your body is not getting enough fuel.

How it links with your cycle

ChangeWhat it can go withWhat can happen to periods
Weight gainPCOS, thyroid changes, high stress, poor sleep, some medicinesLate, irregular or heavier periods
Weight lossLarge or fast loss, eating too little, very intense exerciseLate, light or missing periods

The Ayurvedic view

Ayurveda describes weight gain as excess Kapha and Meda dhatu, often with slow Agni and Ama. Weight loss is linked with Vata and under-nourishment of the dhatus. It looks at how well you digest and nourish yourself, not at a number on a scale. This is a traditional framework, not a diagnosis. See dhatu.

What the AAVIE assessment looks at

  • Cycle length, regularity and flow
  • Appetite, digestion and energy
  • Stress and sleep
  • Food habits and routine
  • Your Prakriti and current Vikriti

Things that may help

  • Eat regular meals, and enough food through the day
  • Move in ways you enjoy
  • Protect your sleep
  • Do not use unprescribed weight-loss pills or teas

How AAVIE supports you

AAVIE builds a personalised herbal supplement from your answers to support your cycle and hormonal balance. A Vaidya reviews it before it ships. It works best alongside regular sleep, meals and stress care. It does not treat any condition, and results vary.

See a doctor if:
  • Unexplained weight gain or loss
  • No period for three months in a row
  • Weight gain with irregular periods, acne or excess hair (ask about PCOS)
  • Feeling cold and tired, or hair fall with weight change (ask about thyroid)
  • Worry about eating that affects daily life
Good to know: AAVIE is a herbal supplement. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and it does not replace medical care. Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition or take medicines.

Common questions

Will AAVIE help me lose weight?

No. AAVIE is not a weight-loss product. It supports cycle and hormonal balance.

Why did my periods stop when I lost weight?

The body can pause periods when it is under-fuelled. This needs a doctor.
